This Summer we are sticking close to home since we have a lot of big plans in play. Home is Michigan for us the land of the vacation, and we actually live in vacation land itself. It is pretty cool when you look up scenic by ways and a road you live near and drive on all the time is one. Anyway, this summer we are working on checking out all the Lighthouses in Michigan, at least the ones on land. We have checked out a few over the years but this summer I want to try to see a lot of them since they are close and we like to travel.
Our First Adventure of the summer was in May and we started on the east side of the state at Harrisville State Park Campground. This campground is right on Lake Huron it is a really nice state park they have recently upgraded it and it shows. We camped here in our Roof Top Tent for the night and then headed north after breakfast.

Dinner was beef and vegetable ramen bowls and breakfast was sausage, potatoes and egg with cheese breakfast tacos. Super easy camp meals so we didn’t have to spent the money and eat out. Plus there is not a whole lot over here to go out to eat anyway.
Here is the Itinerary for our Trip for the day. We had a lot of fun trying to find some of these and we did this on a week day and nothing was actually open. This is really a better weekend trip when the lighthouse are actually open to check out. I have listed when they are open and prices if they have tours.

Sturgeon Point Lighthouse our first stop of the day.

Alpena Light – At the Entrance of the Harbor for Alpena.
Presque Isle – has four lighthouses in it town. That is probably why it gets to have a Lighthouse Festival. two of the lights are together and are current markers into the bay. the other two are true Lighthouses.

Presque Isle – Front and Rear Range Lights.

Old Presque Isle Lighthouse

Presque Isle Lighthouse

Rogers City – The Forty Mile Point Light. This is a cool spot with a lot to see. The light is open to the public during the summer months and there is even a ship wreck you can walk to on the beach that appeared when the water got really high.

Cheboygan – Rear and Front Range Lights still active for bringing boats into the Indian River.

Cheboygan – Crib Light light is just a short walk on the beach to get to. It is super cute. Plus we saw a bonus lighthouse.

From the Cheboygan Crib Light you can see the Fourteen Foot Should LightHouse. This Light House was never manned it was electronically controlled by the Poe Reef Light house which you can no see from where we were standing. The Poe Reef Light house is similar to this one sitting out in the water.

Mackinaw City – The Old Mackinac Point Lighthouse. Which is open in the summer for tours. This light is a cool spot because you are super close to the Mackinaw Bridge.

This is the last lighthouse of the day just on the other side of Mackinac City is McGulpin Point Lighthouse. It is sitting on the Lake Michigan Side. They were cleaning the outside of the lighthouse when we stopped by so we didn’t get more photo’s. This one is open to the public during the summer. I plan on coming back here to check it out and maybe even go to the top. We headed home after this. It was a long day of hunting Lighthouses. But definitely worth it. We have successfully done from Harrisville, MI to Mackinac City, MI on this trip.
If you are interested in finding these light you can download the page I made up for this trip and go see them for yourself!!!
