Today we went to Unicoi State Park near Helen, GA. It is a Beautiful State park that me may camp At next year. It has an awesome mountain bike park as well as some great hiking. We went on a gorgeous 70 degree day to check it out. We hiked the bottom loop trail that also connects to the trail you can walk to Helen on. While our son did the outer loop of the mountain biking section and rode to Helen for a coffee and back.

The Trail we hiked is about 1.5 miles and was an easy hike through the woods. Toward the end you hike next to the river in the park. Then Through a Large field that was pretty wet when we walked through.

We hiked back to the truck and then down the road by the mountain biking parking area toward the river on the other side and found the dam.

This was one of the first times I have gotten to wear my new Osprey Hiking Pack and I am loving it. The trampoline on the back has made a huge difference on how hot my back gets. And I have realized down here that a hiking pack is important since you never know when you might have to cross a creek or when it might cool off. My list is bellow the next photo.

So I Started carrying a towel, sandals for Creek Crossings, a hat and gloves also a neck warmer, since I get headaches in the cold easily. Also, a small first aid kit, and snack bars to go along with my water.

This park has a lot to offer, the campground looks awesome as I said I think we will camp here next year. there is an 8 mile one way trail to Anna Ruby Falls which I already posted about. It is right next to this park. There is also a nice lake you can rent kayaks and other things to go play on. And a trail that loops around the lake. They were working on that trail when we were down here.

Our son had a blast mountain biking here. Though he said it was really rutted out, but we had just gotten a ton of rain down here so that is not surprising. He came back covered in clay since the trail hadn’t had time to dry out.

Here is his Strava Route he did at Unicoi.
